Our public schools stand as the cornerstone of our democracy, embodying the principles of equality, opportunity, and community. They serve as vital institutions where students from diverse backgrounds come together to learn, grow, and prepare for the future. These institutions not only impart knowledge but also instill essential values of citizenship, tolerance, and cooperation. Our public schools foster a sense of belonging and unity, bringing together individuals from all walks of life to create a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences and aspirations. They play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of informed and engaged citizens, ensuring the sustainability of our democratic ideals and the prosperity of our society as a whole.
Empowering Future Generations.
In our public schools, we find the essential spaces where our American community imparts invaluable lessons to our children, shaping them into contributing members of our broader society. Within these classrooms, we entrust our dedicated educators with a profound responsibility: to foster the general welfare by guiding our children towards adulthood equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive within our democracy. It is our aim that these future adults not only fulfill their individual potential but also develop a strong sense of belonging and a commitment to contribute to both the well-being of their immediate communities and the greater society at large.
Ensuring the safety of our Kyrene Public Schools is paramount. As a candidate for the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board, I am dedicated to supporting any method or program that is grounded in facts, proven effectiveness, and is acceptable to the parents, educators, and broader community members within the district. It is imperative that our schools provide a secure environment where students can learn and thrive without fear or distraction. By prioritizing evidence-based approaches and fostering collaboration among all stakeholders, we can collectively work towards implementing measures that uphold the safety and well-being of everyone within the Kyrene school community.
I do not support “banning” books. Decision-making re: appropriate books to have in K-8 libraries is handled by professional educational librarians who are trained to select books that are appropriate for students according to their age and grade level. All books are judged to contribute to KYRENE Public School civic goals. Any books that are educationally inappropriate for public school education are not now, nor have they ever been, included in school libraries or curricula.
“Science” is based on facts, which are provable and known contemporaneously with any scientific theory. I support teaching science to all students in KYRENE public schools, so that our KYRENE students are better prepared to be constructive members of our diverse American community.
